2025 Audi S5 First Drive: Refined, Yet Engaging
The Audi S5 has become a little complicated over the last few years. It was offered with 3.0 litre V6 petrol, then it was offered with a 3.0 litre diesel V6. Now, Audi has gone back to the petrol V6 as the S5 now replaces the S4 Avant as Audi has designated it’s even numbered cars for those with EV power. Are you keeping up? No, I’m not sure I am either – let’s go for a drive.
So then, the 3.0 litre V6; it offers 367hp along with 550Nm. This power is fed to all four wheels via a 7-speed Stronic and Quattro all wheel drive system. 0-62 is dealt with in just 4.5 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155mph.
One of the key things about the new S5 – and the A5 for that matter – is that it’s the first Audi model to be built on using Premium Platform Combustion, or PPC for short. This is a setup that can be quite technical to explain, but in essence, it’s a 48 volt MHEV platform that features two electric motors, a bigger battery compared to your typical mild-hybrid, and in the case of the A5 can offer EV only driving at speeds up to 18mph.
Not only that, but it has been able to slash CO2 emissions by 10g/km for the newly developed 2.0 litre diesel in the A5 and 17g/km for the V6 used in S5.
I would go through what the S Launch Edition offers in regard to equipment, but seeing as this trim level is no longer available, it seems a little reduntant. Therefore, let me focus on a trim level you can get your hands on now, well at least at the time of filming.
At present there is actually only one trim level available for the Audi S5, which is called Edition 1. Starting from £70,550 for the Saloon and £72,450 for the Avant, it offers standard features such as 20” alloys, S Sports Suspension with Adaptive Dampers, Sports Diff, red brake calipers, Matrix LED headlights, Digital OLED rear lights, panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency, electrically adjustable front seats with massage function, Bang & Olufsen premium sounds system, 14.5” touchscreen, 11.9” Virtual Cockpit, 10.9” passenger touch display, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, three zone climate control, parking system plus with 360 display, park assist plus, the list keeps going…
