Honda’s New Tiny EV Can Power Your House – Meet the All-Electric N-One e: Kei Car Revolution
—
Honda has officially unveiled what might just be the most charming and surprisingly capable EV of the year — the Honda N-One e:, a fully electric kei car that’s as practical as it is adorable. Fresh off its appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this pint-sized electric car has made its production debut in Japan, and while it may be tiny in stature, it delivers some impressive features — including the ability to power your home.
At first glance, the N-One e: looks like something out of a futuristic cartoon: compact, boxy, and high-roofed, with a robot-like face that practically smiles back at you. Despite its playful appearance, this is a serious urban mobility solution designed to meet Japan’s kei car regulations, which limit external size and engine output. As such, the N-One e: measures under 3,400 mm (about 134 inches) and produces no more than 63 horsepower from a single electric motor.
While Honda has kept some of the technical specs under wraps, it’s likely that the N-One shares its core EV hardware with the Honda N-Van e:, a similar electric kei van released last year. That vehicle offers a range of up to 152 miles on a single charge and supports 50 kW DC fast charging. Thanks to its small battery size, a full recharge takes just around 30 minutes, making it ideal for zipping around crowded city streets or quick top-ups during errands.
Inside, the N-One e: keeps things simple and functional. The dashboard offers a refreshing mix of physical buttons and digital controls, including a rotary dial for media volume and a standard-looking transmission selector familiar to anyone who’s driven a Honda. A one-pedal driving mode can be activated with the push of a button, making stop-and-go city driving smoother and more efficient.
A shelf below the touchscreen provides a handy place for your smartphone, although there’s no wireless charging — this car is more about smart utility than luxury. The rear seats fold flat with a 50:50 split, maximizing cargo capacity in this already compact vehicle.
But here’s where it gets really interesting: the N-One e: supports Vehicle-to-Load functionality, meaning you can plug appliances or devices directly into the car. Whether it’s a power outage at home, a camping trip, or just charging your laptop on the go, this car isn’t just a commuter—it’s a portable battery on wheels. With an optional Honda adapter, owners can use their N-One to power electric bikes, coffee makers, lights, or even a small home in an emergency.
Honda’s accessories catalog for the N-One includes not only the V2L adapter, but also a sporty cosmetic kit featuring Shelby-style racing stripes, and a dash-top LED battery indicator that lets you monitor your charge status at a glance.
Sales of the Honda N-One e: will begin this September in Japan, and the car is expected to make its European debut at the IAA in Munich later that same month. Unfortunately for fans in the U.S., there are currently no plans to bring this clever little EV stateside.
In a world dominated by oversized SUVs and increasingly complex tech, the Honda N-One e: brings us back to the basics of what a car can be: efficient, practical, and fun—with just the right amount of tech where it counts. Whether you’re a city dweller looking for the perfect commuter or someone who wants a backup power solution on wheels, the N-One e: might just be the perfect blend of mobility and versatility.
