Three things about Alto K10’s fuel efficiency. First, it’s not the most fuel efficient Maruti. In fact, the same engine is used in the bigger S-Presso and Celerio – both are more fuel efficient. The claimed fuel efficiency of the K10 is just under 25kmpl, which is slightly more than the Alto 800. The worst we saw in heavy traffic was around 18kmpl, with three adults on board. The figure improves to 22kmpl when travelling solo and in flowing traffic. Second, highway use: the fuel efficiency doesn’t suffer with high-speed use as on the expressway the number would increase to 22-24kmpl. Third, the range: With a fuel tank of 27litres we have seen real world range of 550kms. For the record, the most fuel efficient Maruti today is the most expensive – the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid.
