Volkswagen turned the 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo into something closer to an entry luxury crossover than a normal compact SUV. The hardware makes a serious case: 268 hp, less weight, real wood, quilted leather, and a chassis that feels properly sorted. The problem is that premium pricing also makes the software part of the promise.
In this review, we drive the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo 4MOTION, priced at $44,560 in the U.S. and C$51,295 in Canada as tested. This Tiguan uses the 2.0 liter EA888 evo5 turbo with 268 hp and 258 lb-ft, an 8 speed automatic, 4MOTION all wheel drive, the MQB Evo platform, MacPherson struts, a multi link rear suspension, 20 inch wheels, and a cabin loaded with quilted leather, American walnut trim, Harman Kardon audio, head-up display, and a 15 inch screen. We compare the Tiguan’s premium push against vehicles like the Acura RDX and Genesis GV70, while also digging into owner reported issues including wireless CarPlay drops, infotainment black screens, ADAS warnings, phantom braking reports, low speed hesitation, and the no dipstick oil check through the infotainment system.
